Turning human skin cells into what appear to be embryonic stem cells without having to make or destroy an embryo could quell an ethical debate.
I am one of those who has ethical and religious objections to using human embryos for stem cell research. When you consider that I am also one of those people who will benefit so greatly by this kind of research, an article such as this one in the New York Times today gets me very excited.

And now today, another article from the New York Times:

Butter, I have ethical and moral concerns about embryonic stem cells as well. I saw the article about skin cells about a month ago and rejoiced, because I had vowed not to avail myself of any opportunity from embryonic cells.
Let us all hope that these skin cells are really pluripotent.

I tend to be very skeptical about new claims for breakthroughs, as it keeps me from being disappointed. So, for me to get excited about this article is uncharacteristic. I, too, hope and pray that this is going to be a workable process.

Thanks for stopping by, Jack, and taking me up on my invitation.
